August 28, 2018

The pharmaceutical group Uriach has signed a collaboration agreement with the Japan-Spain Business Circle (CEJE) to become part of the organisation as a corporate partner.

Uriach is a family company dedicated to improving the health, quality of life and well-being of people around the world. The company is made up of two business areas: Consumer Healthcare (OTC products and Natural Care) and Business-to-Business (which includes NCEs, Generics and Contract Manufacturing).

Present in Spain, Italy and Portugal, it is undergoing international expansion, selling its products in more than 70 countries.

Last December (2017), the pharmaceutical company Uriach launched its star product Rupatadina in Japan, under the Rupafin brand, in 10 mg tablets. This came after obtaining authorisation from the Japanese Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency last September, which granted it 8 years of exclusivity in the market and after negotiating the price with Japanese authorities. This newest generation of antihistamine, researched and developed by Uriach, is indicated for allergic rhinitis, urticaria and itching associated with skin conditions.

All Rupafin tablets that are sold in Japan are fully produced in Uriach plants in Palau Solità i Plegamans (Barcelona province) and also at its chemical plant located in Sant Fost de Campsentelles (Barcelona province), which has led to an investment of 4 million euros to broaden its production capacity.

Founded in 1838, the company has been able to maintain a sustainable and profitable business model since its inception. Uriach currently comprises 800 professionals and two production centres located in the province of Barcelona. These two centres are dedicated to chemical and pharmaceutical production for the company and for third parties.

Last year (2017), it turned over 174 million euros, of which around 60% came from outside of the national market.

The Japan-Spain Business Circle [Círculo Empresarial Japón España (CEJE)] is the Association that includes Japanese companies established in Spain, as well as Spanish companies with interests in Japan, and that arise from the Shacho Kai Barcelona transformation, due to its desire to expand its scope of activity.
