CEJE successfully holds the Balfegó evening in the company of nine Michelin stars

Around one hundred guests attended an exclusive gastronomy-cultural event on Tuesday the 23rd of September, organised by Balfegó and the Japan-Spain Business Circle (CEJE), to celebrate the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Spain. The evening was attended by pioneers of the gastronomy world; Martín Berasategui, a chef with 8 Michelin stars and a global ambassador for Balfegó, and Hideki Matsuhisa, the only Japanese chef with a Michelin star in Barcelona.

The event was chaired by the Honourable Consul General of Japan in Barcelona, Mr. Naohito Watanbe, who addressed the guests to “thank CEJE and Balfegó, for organising an event which promotes culinary and commercial exchanges between Spain and Japan, once again demonstrating the long-standing history of friendship which unites both countries.” Furthermore, the Consul added how satisfied he was with the “free trade agreement that will soon come into force and that will facilitate the import of raw materials for restaurants, bringing Spanish products increasingly closer to Japan and vice versa.”

The meeting, especially intended for CEJE members and the community of Japanese and Spanish companies with a particular interest in Japan in Barcelona, was held at Tunateca Balfegó Espai Gastronòmic in Barcelona (located at the Diagonal-Muntaner intersection), the first space in the world exclusively dedicated to bluefin tuna. The premises, measuring over 300 square meters, offers visitors the chance to taste this product and learn about the culture and information relating to this species. It also provides the background to Grup Balfegó and its sustainable vision for this fishery, which it has run for five generations.

Tunateca Balfegó offered the guests an exquisite Hispano-Japanese fusion menu, specifically created for the occasion, whereby Balfegó bluefin tuna was the main ingredient. Notable dishes included certain concepts such as a Marinated tuna fin with chilled cream of mango soup and a hint of carrot; Tuna belly tartar, oysters and sea urchin bud with sukiyaky sauce; and Harmonica with a spicy Tonkatsu sauce and cous-cous, among other high-level gastronomic offerings.

The Japan-Spain Business Circle [Círculo Empresarial Japón España (CEJE)] is the Association that includes Japanese companies established in Spain, as well as Spanish companies with interests in Japan, and that arise from the Shacho Kai Barcelona transformation, due to its desire to expand its scope of activity. The fundamental mission of the Association includes the desire to spread Japanese business culture.
